Year They Came Out of the Closet: 2013
Wentworth Miller, originally from British Columbia and now residing in Canada, initially denied being gay in a 2007 InStyle interview, choosing to keep his sexuality private for many years. His turning point came in August 2013, when he publicly came out by declining an invitation to the Saint Petersburg International Film Festival, citing concerns over Russia’s discriminatory treatment of its LGBTQ+ community.

At the 2013 Human Rights Campaign Dinner in Seattle, Miller shared his personal struggles with depression and multiple suicide attempts during his youth. His involvement with the ManKind Project later provided him with a sense of community and acceptance. Today, Miller embraces his truth openly, using his platform to share his journey and encourage others.
