Grahame began her career in theater before making her film debut in 1944 with MGM. However, the studio didn’t foresee her becoming a major star.
Though she appeared in a handful of films, her cinematic career eventually started to fade. Grahame shifted her focus to the stage, while also taking on supporting roles in both film and television.
In 1974, she was diagnosed with breast cancer but chose to forgo treatment, which led to a rapid decline in her health. She returned to New York City, where she passed away in October 1981 at the age of 57.
