Simple Kitchen Storage Upgrades - How We Made Our Cabinets Work Smarter
The Under-Sink Cabinet

Alright, let’s move on to the space under the sink. To refresh your memory, here’s what our old under-sink cabinet looked like. It had a thick wood divider between the two doors, which made things a bit awkward, but thanks to some wire shelves on the doors, we managed to make it work.

Our new cabinet is the same size (36 inches), but now with large, full-height doors, it’s a lot easier to reach everything inside… so naturally, we’ve managed to pack even more in there! It’s not going to win any awards for looks, but hey, it’s practical. We like to reuse the storage bins we already have (even if they don’t match) rather than buying new ones, so you’ll see a mix of what we’ve collected over the years. Now we’ve also moved a few essentials, like my wife’s trusty Folex, our wood conditioning wax, and some Lysol, from the laundry closet to this space, keeping them all together.

This goes for quite a few random items. When we first organized our kitchen, some things had to live in the hall closet or laundry closet because there just wasn’t enough room in the kitchen. Now, it’s such a relief to have everything in one place, so we don’t have those “Is the magic eraser under the sink…? Nope, it’s in the hall closet!” moments anymore.
Some things haven’t changed, though – we’re still using lazy Susans under the sink (this clear, divided one is a favorite!) for easy access to cleaning supplies. We’ve also kept the same wire shelves to create two levels of storage, which has freed up space by bringing a few items back from other areas of the house. This setup has made the whole area more organized and adaptable to our needs.
