Ivanka's Fashion Missteps: Outfits That Sparked Controversy
Ivanka’s Fashion Choices Highlight the Divide Between Park Avenue and Main Street

In December 2017, the Senate passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which included a provision for a Child Tax Credit that Ivanka Trump had championed. However, her advocacy for the bill raised eyebrows due to her wealthy background, with many questioning whether someone from her affluent lifestyle could truly understand the needs of everyday families. Despite the tax cuts benefiting both working-class families and the already wealthy (those earning below a $400,000 combined income), critics felt Ivanka’s position made her an unlikely spokesperson for the cause.
In June 2018, Ivanka posted a photo on Instagram and X from a White House celebration of the tax cuts, posing alongside LaSonya Hill, a working mother, and her family. The caption read, "Today marks 6 months since the passage of #TaxCuts. Thanks to the doubled Child Tax Credit, American working parents, like LaSonya Hill, will have more money to invest in caring for & educating their children. #CTC #TaxReform."
For the occasion, Ivanka wore a $2,110 Emilia Wickstead dress, paired with a Chanel handbag and stilettos, a wardrobe choice that seemed to contrast sharply with the working-class families the tax cuts were designed to assist. According to Express, shortly after the event, Ivanka and her family took a trip to the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, boarding Marine One for a vacation with the rest of the Trump clan.
