9. Charcoal anyone?!

I once had to push activated charcoal through an OG tube. I pushed so hard that the pressure made the tube pop off the syringe.

Black, slimy charcoal splattered everywhere—on the patient’s face, the bed, the floor, the wall, the monitor… you name it. The patient was on a vent, and we couldn’t get the tubing fully clean.

I had to own up to the mess in front of the family, who were already horrified that their 20-year-old loved one was on a vent. Now, not only was she vented, but she looked like something straight out of a horror movie.
