8 Easy Steps to Build a Tiny A-Frame Cabin

Step 6: Finish the Roof and Install Openings

Start by covering the roof framing with #30 roofing felt, stapling it in place from the bottom up and overlapping towards the top. Use 3x12 or 2x12 corrugated metal roofing, attaching it with the recommended metal roofing screws and washers.

Don’t forget to add the roof ridge cap as directed by the manufacturer. The metal roofing comes in 12-foot lengths; you can cut it down to 11 feet if needed, ensuring an overlap and at least a 1-inch overhang on both sides.

I recommend finding a second-hand wood door and cutting it to fit the 2'x5'8" opening, leaving a 1/4 inch space around it for easy operation. You can use pine or cedar scraps for the door trim.

For the window, look for a standard 2x3 window, which you can often find second-hand or for free. Finally, paint the frame and trim with exterior paint to help them last longer.
